Safety

Staying safe on Fox Video Chat

You press start and a few seconds later you're looking at someone you've never met. That's the whole point of Fox Video Chat, and it's also why nobody can call it completely safe. No video chat site can promise that. What you can do is know what happens on the call and what's in your hands.

What does the other person see?

Your camera image and everything your microphone picks up. That includes the mail on the desk behind you and the voice of whoever is in the next room.

They can also film their screen with a phone or a recording app. No website can block that. So don't show anything on camera that you wouldn't want to find online later.

If a chat doesn't feel right

  1. Leave. You don't owe anyone a conversation. Close the chat, or move to the next person once the countdown ends.
  2. Report. Threats, nudity you didn't ask for, scams, or someone who looks under 18: report them.
  3. Block. If you never want to be matched with that person again, block them.

Five habits that help

  • A first name is plenty. Your surname, street, employer and social handles can wait, maybe forever.
  • Never send money, gift cards or login codes, however sad the story.
  • Don't click links a stranger sends you.
  • Don't move to another app just because someone asks. Outside this site, you can't report them here.
  • Stay dressed with people you don't know. Recording-based blackmail often starts exactly that way.

Want the camera side of this, too? See how to set up your light and background before a call.

Adults only

Fox Video Chat is for people 18 and older. If someone looks younger, end the chat and report it right away. The age check when you arrive is a confirmation you give yourself, so it says nothing about anyone else's age. Video doesn't prove who someone is either.

Who are you actually talking to?

You're paired at random. You can't count on the other person being from a certain country, a certain age or a certain gender. You may also run into pre-recorded clips or live streamers on the platform, so not every face is someone talking only to you at that moment.

If something went wrong

These organizations are outside this site and can help:

  • NCMEC CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org): if a minor is involved, or for sextortion.
  • Take It Down (takeitdown.ncmec.org): helps remove nude images taken of you before you turned 18.
  • StopNCII.org (stopncii.org): for adults, helps stop intimate images from being shared on participating platforms.
  • FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov): report extortion or online fraud.
  • FTC (reportfraud.ftc.gov): report scams.

Call 911 if you're in immediate danger. If someone is blackmailing you, don't pay. Save whatever evidence you have and get help.

Know what to expect? Then go meet someone.
